New surgery – building work commences at Chawton Park!!

Monday 17th May saw the start of work on the site of our new surgery, and a brief ceremony was held to celebrate. Invited guests were Anne Cleaver, Paddy Mendham, Tony Ludlow, Alan Chick, Pam Bradford and Richard White. This was an historic day, the fruition of ten years of hard work. The new surgery will take approximately 40 weeks to build and will provide a fantastic environment for doctors and patients alike. We will keep you posted when the moving date will be. Many thanks to everyone who made it happen! … and all partook of the wonderful cake – decorated by Marion Morgan.

Various other appropriate ceremonies took place, with Dr de Quincey digging the first sod, and smashing a bottle of champagne over the appropriately gaping maw of a JCB!

Logo competition

The occasion also enabled us to present the prize to the winner of the logo competition. The prize was won by Ian Smith, who tweaked the surgery initials to produce a logo in keeping with our tree-lined site, with a hint at the surgical symbolic snake, and yet simple enough for easy (and cheap!) reproduction. Matt de Quincey presented Ian with a set of glass tumblers, engraved with the new logo... and something to put in them!

STAFF news

Dr Karen O'Reilly has decided not to return to us after her period of study leave and is starting a new job in Bishops Waltham. We will miss her and wish her all the best for the future. Some of her slots meantime will be filled by Dr Helen Wright and Dr Katherine O'Sullivan, both of whom have been locums here before.

Dr Guy Hillman has joined us for four months as part of his pre-registration training. He trained at Barts and the Royal London and has spent the last eight months training in general medicine and surgery at the North Hampshire Hospital. His first love is psychiatry and he will be undertaking further psychiatric training when he leaves us.

Dr Rekha Tailor will be joining us in August, working all day Tuesdays and Thursdays and Wednesday mornings. She has worked as a GP principal in Kent and as a GP in the Midlands. She has recently moved to the area as her husband has taken up a gynaecology/oncology post in West Surrey. Her interests are child health, gynaecology and family planning.

Blood Pressure Machine

We have bought a do-it-yourself blood pressure machine for the waiting room. This means you can get your blood pressure measured without an appointment. The machine will give you a paper read-out, which you will have to name and date. Please give it to the Receptionists. If your blood pressure is above 150/90 the receptionist will give you a letter asking you to come for a further three readings. The readings will then be reviewed by our Practice Nurse. Please telephone the Practice a week after the final reading and a message will be left for you to say whether you need an appointment or not for treatment.
