Sponsor a Chair – We are raising money for new furniture to complement the new surgery. Each chair costs £50. If you would like to sponsor a chair (or even a leg) please telephone or write your details on the New Surgery Board next to Reception.

Childhood Vaccinations
The Joint Committee on Vaccinations has made slight alterations to the Childhood Vaccination Programme for Children. Children will now receive two injections at two months, three months and four months, one containing five immunisations, ie tetanus, polio, diphtheria, whooping cough and Haemophilus influenzae B and the second injection containing Meningitis C. The type of polio vaccine has changed from a ‘live vaccine’, which previously meant that anyone changing the nappies needed to be vaccinated against polio, to an inactivated vaccine, which can now be injected. There is also a minor change to the type of whooping cough vaccine, also known as an acellular pertussis preparation, which tends to cause fewer adverse reactions than the whole cell pertussis vaccine currently used. Additionally, there is no mercury in the new vaccine to satisfy the overall international aim of reducing the exposure of children to mercury from avoidable sources. The new vaccine, therefore, will continue to provide excellent protection for children and will improve on the already excellent safety profile of these vaccines.

Email newsletter format - For the last newsletter, we tried out a new format which involved attaching a PDF file to the email. With a PDF file, you get to see the photos as well as the text, but the downside is a bigger download. The only comments received last time were positive, so this time we shall use the PDF format again. If anyone prefers the raw text version, simply email website@chawtonpark.org.uk to request it, and we will log that for future newsletters.
